In the end, you can also check out an FAQ section where I compare the prices of eco-friendly & plastic-free toilet paper with conventional ones.
Before we begin with the list, let’s answer one important question –
Why switch to environmentally friendly toilet paper?
The truth is that toilet paper can be harmful to the environment. It is a single-use paper product that requires a lot of energy for production, and the manufacturing process is incredibly wasteful.
Plus, toilet paper is (almost) always wrapped in plastic, which equals more waste. We cut down hundreds of trees daily, and for what? To wipe up our butts.
Luckily, sustainable companies are using recycled paper and bamboo to create sustainable & plastic toilet paper products. Let’s take a closer look at 18 eco-friendly TP options.

FAQ:
What is the cheapest plastic-free toilet paper?
The three cheapest recycled toilet paper options are:
- Pacific Blue TP – 80 rolls for $65. 550 sheets per roll. 15 cents per 100 rolls.
- Scott TP – 80 rolls for $72. 550 sheets per roll. 20 cents per 100 rolls.
- Marcal TP – 48 rolls for $49. 336 sheets per roll. 30 cents per 100 rolls.
The three cheapest bamboo toilet paper options are:
- A Good Company – 48 rolls for $52. 370 sheets per roll. 30 cents per 100 rolls.
- Who Gives A Crap – 48 rolls for $68. 370 sheets per roll. 38 cents per 100 rolls.
- Bim Bam Boo – 48 rolls for $56. 295 sheets per roll. 39 cents per 100 rolls.
How long will it take to finish 24 rolls or 48 rolls?
It depends if you’re a hardcore toilet paper user or not and which toilet paper you plan to get. To make an average estimation, for a household of 2 people, you will go through 24 rolls in 3-4 months. 48 rolls can last about 6-8 months.
Is sustainable & plastic-free toilet paper more expensive?
When compared with the prices for toilet paper in the supermarket, the cost of these plastic-free toilet paper products may seem a little high. Let’s take a closer look at some numbers:
- Marcel Recycled TP – costs $49 for 48 rolls and 30 cents per 100 sheets.
- Cottonelle Ultra Clean TP (Amazon bestseller) – costs $51.7 for 48 rolls and 28 cents per 100 sheets.
The price ends up being more or less the same, and it is possible to pay more for an unsustainable TP option wrapped in plastic. Sometimes, a plastic-free option can be a bit more expensive, but the price difference won’t be so huge.
How can I get toilet paper without plastic?
Finding plastic-free toilet paper in a regular store is nearly impossible. The best way is to order toilet paper in bulk, wrapped in paper instead of plastic. There are plenty of plastic-free options online.
Is it cheaper to buy toilet paper online?
Research found that, on average, people spend $182 annually on toilet paper. Regularly buying small packs of toilet paper can easily pile up, and you might spend a lot of cash on it. On the contrary, buying sustainable, plastic-free toilet paper online (in bulk) is often cheaper and will last much longer.
What is the most environmentally friendly toilet paper?
100% recycled paper is the most environmentally-friendly option for toilet paper, not processed with chlorine. Another great sustainable alternative is bamboo since it grows incredibly quickly, requires little water and no pesticides, and once it’s chopped down – it’ll grow back.
Does bamboo toilet paper block the drain?
Bamboo toilet paper doesn’t contain bleach or dyes, so it is safe for septic systems, boats, RVs, etc. It is 100% biodegradable and will dissolve naturally without clogging up your pipes.
What can I use instead of toilet paper?
Water! Install bidet to your toilet. This will save you lots of toilet paper and make your whole routine much more hygienic.

An eco friendly toilet paper is really a good product for the environment…Really a great initiative…Thanks for this product!!
Regarding bidet–I tried one but didn’t like the hassle of having to turn off the water at the back and the bottom of my toilet between uses. The risk of NOT turning it off could be a leak and flooding, which I doubt insurance would cover. Instead, I now have an old hair dye bottle, filled with water next to the toilet. The tip can be angled for best reach, the tip is small so I can get precise aim, and since the opening is small, it increases the force of the water with mild pressure on the bottle. It’s so easy to use and those squirt bottles are cheap at a beauty store.
