Thanks for this great list! Can you give any insight on the packaging used for these different companies? I have always liked looking on Ebay for used clothes, but have a hard time getting vendors to send products in minimal or plastic-free packaging. Any insights on which of these offer waste-light, eco-friendly packaging?

Hi! The one that’s with individual sellers (like depop, and vinted) it’s best to contact them directly, and ask how they pack the items, and if it’s possible for them to use recycled/plastic-free packaging.
As for the rest, you can check their “FAQ” pages or Shipping information. Some of them mention how they package the orders. If you can’t find it, I will definitely recommend writing directly to the company through their contact form on their websites.

I’ve used ThredUp, Depop & Poshmark — on Depop & Poshmark, I’ve been seeing a lot of dropshippers who claim their items are secondhand when they’re not (literally can find them on AliExpress). And search on Depop is really bad because people always put in the wrong brand ‘for exposure’.

My friend sent me a new site that’s similar to Depop but supposedly vets all of their sellers & items, called Thryft: http://letsthryft.com … I bought a bunch of stuff from them this month and so far like it more than Depop & Poshmark.

I think they’re pretty small right now & have really limited inventory but worth checking out just for the guarantee that you’re buying actual secondhand/vintage stuff. Idk just thought I’d share. 🙂

Thanks for this – it’s an exciting, growing market but some ‘dodgy’ item descriptions and inaccurate claims of the condition are starting to blight some of the above mentioned sites.
I’m surprised that the British Red Cross ebay store didn’t make the cut – some real finds to be had there with excellent service.
