I’ve been trying to minimize my closet, my pantry, my personal care routine… and all things in between, with one main intention: owning less stuff.

Because of this, it became super hard for my family and friends to get me gifts. But the thing is, even though I do try to live more minimally, I still like to get gifts! Just very specific things I actually need or want. 😀

So… I decided to write a list of things that I THINK are good gifts for minimalists (and lots of them are something I would be genuinely excited to receive as a gift… *justttt saayyyin*)

Below, you can find a list of 35 clutter-free gift ideas that will hopefully be great options for your minimalist friends.

Before starting with the list… let me give you the most obvious tip you didn’t ask for, before gifting anyone anything:

Ask what they want or need. It is not too romantic, and yes, the element of surprise is gone, but then, you’ll be 100% sure you will get them something they truly need.

To still try to surprise them, ask them for a list of things they need… then get one of those things, so they wouldn’t know what you’ve gotten them. Okay, now, let’s jump to the list.

Gifts that get used up (consumables)

  1. Fancy olive oil: High-quality, cold-pressed olive oil that actually gets used. Also, olive oil is so freakin expensive nowadays, so this simple gift can be actually pretty nice.
  2. Fancy bar of chocolate: Pick a chocolate filled with nut butter, chocolate with adaptogenic mushrooms, something ethical, and cool. Hu Chocolate BarsCosmic DealerLoving Earth Chocolate are good options.
  3. Good coffee beans: Fair-trade, locally roasted, or their go-to favorite. I like Uprising (with functional mushrooms), Wonky coffee (rescued coffee beans), and Pact coffee (a certified B Corp).
  4. Loose-leaf tea: Minimalist-approved because it’s consumable and never sits around for long.
  5. Nut butters: Unique flavors (pecan, cashew, coconut), locally made or even homemade ones. I would be the happiest if a friend made me a jar of hazelnut butter. So simple, but so good.
  6. Kombucha or craft drinks: Something fun they love to drink.
  7. Snack box: Collect between 5-10 cool snacks you KNOW they eat, buy, and love. For me, this will be my favorite vegan protein bars (MisfitsRoo’ bars & Pulsin bars), Kookie Cat cookies, chocolate-covered nuts, kale chips, mushroom chips, hazelnut butter…

Experiences & real-life treats

  1. Gift certificates: They can be to a favorite local market, restaurant, or coffee shop.
  2. Airbnb gift card: A getaway gift. You can print a few unique listings as inspo and wrap them with the card.
  3. Airline tickets: This is a cool gift idea, especially for your friends who love to travel. If you collected a lot of airline miles, you can simply use your miles to book a ticket in their name.
  4. Lunch or dinner date: Go to your favorite brunch place, or dinner restaurant, or even better, invite them to your place, and cook their favorite food.
  5. Spa treatment: Nails, Thai massage, foot massage, sauna pass… that sort of thing.
  6. Tickets: It can be tickets for a concert, museum, ballet, opera, cinema, theatre, or even a sports game… again, whatever they’re into.
  7. Do a “bucket list” together: Write down activities and different challenges you want to do together in the next year, and make a plan for them. You could try to do one thing every quarter, or aim for one a month.

Services that simplify life

  1. House cleaning service: Schedule a half-day cleaning session. It may sound “boring,” but I would honestly love it if someone gave me this.
  2. Grocery delivery subscription: Saves time, reduces stress, and adds zero clutter. Check out Imperfect Foods and Misfits Market.
  3. Errand-running voucher: Offer help with grocery shopping, babysitting, or other errands.
  4. Haircut: If you know the place they go to, you can get them a gift card for a haircut or for some specific hair treatment.

Learning, creativity & personal growth

  1. Monthly memberships: If they go to yoga classes, you can get them a one-month gift membership. But it doesn’t have to be yoga. It can be martial arts, tai chi, or any other activity they’re into (or want to try out).
  2. Classes: It can be creative things like art classes, dance classes, singing classes, or cooking classes, or other things, like language classes, or classes for learning to play a specific instrument.
  3. Offer your skills: Are you a designer? Or an artist doing jewelry, ceramics, or paintings? Or even something like accounting. Perhaps they need the skill that you have, so offer it to them. You can package it in a cute way and make a “free voucher” for the thing you offer.
  4. A Kindle or e-reader: They’re great for traveling and reduce book clutter. Do it only if they like to read, though. I’m not the biggest reader, so if I get a Kindle, I hate to admit it, but it will collect dust most of the time.

Digital gifts

  1. Audiobooks: Audible is great for minimalists who don’t want more physical books.
  2. A yearly subscription to an app: Get them a yearly subscription to something they love to practice. It can be yogameditation, language apps, or other things they like.
  3. Online learning platforms: A course they’ve actually wanted to try. Udemy, Coursera, Masterclass, and Skillshare are good places to start.
  4. Cloud storage: Kinda odd, but in our digital time, it can be super useful.
  5. E-books: Ideal gift for people who love reading, especially if they already have an e-reader.
  6. Streaming subscription: Only if you know they’ll use it.

Simple home upgrades

  1. High-quality dish soap bar: Better than a liquid refill; lasts longer and takes up no space, and looks cooler than a plastic chemical bottle of liquid dish soap.
  2. A replacement for something they use daily, but got damaged: Think upgraded peeler, strainer, or tongs.
  3. Natural candle or incense sticks: Only if they already use candles or home fragrance, choose natural, eco-friendly options.
  4. Simple minimalist home décor: Thoughtful pieces that don’t create clutter, but only if you know their style. It can be a simple vase, a minimal candle holder, or a small framed art print.
  5. Houseplant: A low-effort plant (like a pothos or snake plant) that adds life without feeling like “more stuff.”
  6. Fresh or dry flowers: A simple, beautiful, clutter-free gift. Fresh flowers brighten their space temporarily, while dry stems (like eucalyptus, cotton stems, or pampas) add a minimalist feel and touch without clutter.
  7. Who Gives A Crap toilet paper: We all use TP, no? This can be a practical, funny, and eco-friendly gift idea that also lasts aaaaaaaages.

Final thoughts

Being a minimalist doesn’t mean no gifts. It means – do it intentionally, and only get something you KNOW they need, want, and will use.
