Consumable gifts if one of my favorite gift ideas – they are inexpensive, thoughtful, and personalizable.
I created a simple yet super delicious and healthy chocolate chip recipe that’s an ideal gift for your friends & family – it requires a few ingredients, and it can be done in last-minute situations.
I also included free downloadable & printable tags for the recipe, which you can find at the end of this article.
Now, let’s get right into how to make a Chocolate Chip Cookie Mixture in a jar!
Why gift Chocolate Chip Cookie mixture in a jar?
- It is inexpensive.
- It is fun!
- It is easy to make, and ideal for last-minute gifts.
- It is delicious, healthy & vegan.
- It will make almost anyone happy (I mean, who doesn’t like chocolate chip cookies??)
The Printable Tag
You can print out and place the tag in the jar with a string; however, you can write down the instructions on a piece of paper if you don’t have enough time.
It will still work perfectly fine! If you have the time, you can print the one I’ll provide for you in the end. 🙂
How to make the Chocolate Chip Cookies in a jar?
First, pour the flour mixture (oat flour, combined with the protein powder, baking soda & salt) at the bottom of the jar.
You can use a spoon to transfer the mixture. Then, use the spoon or a smaller cap from another jar to push down the flour and make more space for the rest.
Next, add a layer of sugar, and finally on the top – the chocolate chips. You can also play with the order of the layers. Before gifting the jar, add the free printable tag with the recipe instructions.
Note: The recipient will have to add the wet ingredients (oil + milk) before baking the cookies. That’s why it is essential to have a printed or handwritten tag with the instructions attached to the jar.
Chocolate Chip Cookies In a Jar – Recipe:
Materials
- Jar – I used two sizes – 620g (22 oz) and 900g (30 oz). The second one was too big, and there was some space on top for both jars. I recommend using 22 oz or smaller (500g / 16 oz).
Ingredients (For the jar)
- 120g oat flour (1 cup)
- 65g Form Nutrition protein powder (1/2 cup + 1 tbsp)
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- A pinch of salt
- 95g brown sugar (½ cup + 1/2 tbsp)
- 100g chocolate chips (1/2 cup + 1,5 tbsp)
For the recipient:
- 60 ml coconut oil (1/4 cup)
- 45 ml plant milk (~5,5 tbsp)
Instructions for the jars:
In a large bowl, mix the oat flour, protein powder, baking soda & salt.
Use a spoon or a funnel to pour the flour mixture into the bottom of a jar into a neat layer. Spread evenly with the back of a spoon. If needed, use the spoon or a smaller cap from another jar to push down the flour and make more space for the rest.
Add another layer of brown sugar.
In the end, add the chocolate chips.
Seal the jar tightly with a lid and attach the printed label.
Instructions for the recipient for baking the cookies:
Remove the chocolate chips from the top.
Move the dry ingredients to a bowl. Mix well.
Then, add the wet ingredients (coconut oil & plant-based milk).
Mix everything well. It is easier if you use your hands.
In the end, add the chocolate. Stir until everything is well combined.
Shape 13 big or 18 small balls, place them on a prepared baking sheet, and press to form cookie shapes.
For best results, refrigerate the cookies for at least an hour.
Bake at 338°F (170°C) for about 14-15 minutes, or until just set. (if the cookies are smaller, check them after ~13 minutes).
Let the cookies cool down for ~20 minutes, then enjoy! 🙂

FAQ:
How long will this cookie mix keep?
If all the ingredients are fresh and recently purchased, it can last 3-4 months. For best results, promptly make the cookies after receiving the jar. This is because the sugar may become a bit stiff, and hard to take out.
What’s the best jar size for this recipe?
You can use 620g (22 oz) or a smaller jar for the cookie mixture. I used 620g, and 900g (check the first image for reference), and there was space on top both times. I haven’t tried it, but a smaller jar (like this 16 oz) should work well if you press down the ingredients. Using mini chocolate chips will also affect how full the jar is.
How to prepare the jar?
Since you will be storing food, make sure the jar is completely clean. You can put it in boiling water for a bit, and then let it air-dry (or dry it with a cloth towel). Make sure the jar is fully dry before putting the ingredients, so they don’t stick to the edges.
Can I skip the protein powder?
I haven’t tried (yet) this recipe without protein powder, so I can’t confirm if the result will be as good. If you want to experiment and skip the protein powder – add more oat flour. (again, I can’t recommend it, and if you do that – do it at your own risk)
If you want to keep the protein powder in the recipe, I recommend using one of my favorites – Form Nutrition. I use it for most of my protein sweets. It contains all 9 essential amino acids, 20g of plant protein, and 7g of fiber per serving. For this recipe, you can use their Vanilla & Chocolate Salted Caramel flavor. If you are based in the US, you can order it from here, or you can also get it within the UK, and Europe.
